La poligamia, la UE, Turquía y Alianza de civilizaciones

La práctica ilegal pero extendida de la poligamia, en Turquía, amenaza el proceso de sus negociaciones en la UE y limita la credibilidad del proyecto de Alianza de civilizaciones defendido a dúo por los gobiernos español y turco.

Con sus 5 mujeres, 55 hijos y 80 nietos, comenta el International Herald Tribune, Aga Mehmet Arslan “no puede defender la poligamia”, contando por lo menudo la historia de un caso quizá significativo, porque deja al descubierto numerosos problemas de fondo:

● La poligamia está oficialmente prohibida en Turquía desde 1926, pero es una práctica relativamente extendida entre la población musulmana.

● Tayyip Recep Erdogan, primer ministro turco, primer aliado de JLR Zapatero, como defensor del proyecto de Alianza de civilizaciones, ha intentado combatir la poligamia “criminalizando” el adulterio, creando nuevos problemas.

● Ilegal, la poligamia crea nuevas discriminaciones contra la mujer.

● La UE condena la poligamia, pero Turquía no puede combatir con facilidad un comportamiento cultural que data del Imperio otomano, indisociable de algunas convicciones culturales musulmanas, que tampoco comparten todos los musulmanes europeos.
